Glass manufacturers and professional glaziers write tons of books and articles, to discuss the newest inventions in the glass industry and their benefits for customers. In most instances, employees working to deliver superior quality products remain beyond the curtain of publicity. Yet, without them, producing perfect window systems would have been impossible. Phoenix Glass knows pretty well that employees are the greatest asset. Employees provide valuable knowledge inputs and invest their physical and mental resources, to meet our strategic business goals. Unfortunately, not all glass manufacturers treat their employees with respect. Recent news suggest that some glass manufacturers forget about the value of labor force and the contribution employees make to the development of new products and services.
The City of London Magistrates’ Court, UK, prosecuted a London window manufacturer for failure to ensure appropriate sanitary conditions in the workplace. The results of mandatory workplace inspection showed that welfare facilities for employees did not meet the standards of hygiene. Toilets were found to be in a poor state and in need of repair. They had no water and soap, were dirty, and lacked even the simplest hand-drying means. The employer had a chance to improve the situation but did not use it. As a result, he was obligated to pay out almost $10,000 in fines and more than $2,500 in court and other costs.
The case teaches a good lesson of employment relations in the glass industry. The process of glass manufacturing is extremely complex. We Phoenix Glass professionals know perfectly well what it means to treat employees properly. However, we also know that meeting the basic standards of quality is not everything. We always strive to go beyond the basics. In our business relations, we are committed to the values of social responsibility and support. In Phoenix Glass, employees are the source of competitive advantage. We are convinced that employees can strengthen any organization’s position and, for this reason, deserve everything the best!
