Mexican Chapel of Glass

In Cuernavaca, Mexico, nestled in rich deciduous forest, is a modern chapel made of glass.  Layers of frosted and plain glass alternate vertically to create the illusion of light rising upwards.  The simple, elegant rectangular building is void of pews and furniture.  A crucifix hangs at the far end.  Capped in white stone that matches the white base, when illuminated the chapel glows with ethereal light.   Called the La Estancia Glass Chapel, this religious structure combines the imaginative use of decorative glass to capture natural light and to bring the natural serenity of the woods inside.  One would think that that a lot of window cleaner would be required to maintain the clarity of view.  The entry door is invisible, giving the illusion of blending the natural scene beyond within the chapel.  The chapel is primarily used for weddings.
